Duties and Responsibilities
The General Service Section of the United Nations International Residual
Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (“Mechanism”) invites applications for
internships The duration of the internship generally ranges from three
months to six months. Please indicate your preferred internship period
in your cover letter.

The Mechanism is mandated to perform a number of
essential functions previously carried out by the International Criminal
Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the
former Yugoslavia. In carrying out these essential functions the
Mechanism maintains the legacies of these two pioneering ad hoc
international criminal courts and strives to reflect best practices in
the field of international criminal justice. The internship is UNPAID
and full-time. Interns work five days per week. Under the supervision of
the Chief of General Services Section, Facilities Management Unit
Supervisor or a staff member in the section to which they are assigned,
the intern will be: participating in the activities related to the
maintenance of the facilities, making field work reports, assessments
for maintenance requirements, on site work-through with contractors,
draft as-built drawings to update new developments and alterations to
installations and buildings, any other duties as assigned by
supervisors.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship
Programme, applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the
following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final
academic year of a relevant first university degree programme (minimum
bachelor’s level or equivalent) (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a
relevant graduate school programme (second university degree (Master
Degree) or equivalent, or higher); Relevant degrees should be in areas
of electrical, mechanical, or similar. Applicants to the UN Internship
Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of
internship that you are applying is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the Mechanism. Fluency
in English is required. Knowledge of Swahili is desirable.

internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa
