Duties and Responsibilities

Organizational Setting and Reporting: This position is located in the General Services Section, Registry, under the direct supervision the Supervisor of Facilities Management Unit. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an assessment/interview. The selected candidate will be offered a contract as an Individual Contractor. Duties and Responsibilities: • Operate/maintain distributed building equipment/systems and perform daily inspections of major building equipment, including Electrical power distribution system, Centralized and split HVAC systems, Water/Fire pumps, control systems, Generators and ATS backup system, UPS system, Firefighting equipment/system, Plumbing system, Elevators, and Solar power system. • Monitor and ensure 24/7 power supply to the Data Center, intervening to repair breakdowns or faults in both main and backup systems. • Inspect and ensure the operation of newly installed HVAC equipment post-remediation, liaising with the FMU supervisor and contractor as needed. • Oversee the new 72,000-liter water storage system with gravity flow and solar booster pump, monitoring water flow and inspecting storage tanks and plumbing. • Prepare and complete preventive maintenance schedules and reports, and assist in identifying potential vendors for maintenance supplies. • Perform regular repair, re-conditioning, and preventive maintenance work, including plumbing and electrical repairs, basic office equipment repairs (e.g., shredders), and welding, forming, and fabrication of metals. • Undertake minor construction and repairs, including installing partitions, changing locks, and replacing glass. • Evaluate the extent of repairs required and assist in preparing plans and specifications for work requirements. • Provide direction to outside contractors and ensure that construction and repair projects are completed in accordance with requirements. • Assist in quality assurance of maintenance contractors’ work and prepare status updates on work completed. • Perform any other ad-hoc duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical Certificate in Electrical, Mechanics or any relevant technical field is required. A minimum of five (5) years of relevant working experience in the field of facilities management is required. Working experience with UN International Criminal Tribunals is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the Mechanism. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Swahili is desirable.

Additional Information

This position is subject to local recruitment. Only applicants who are authorized to work in the duty station and currently living in the duty station or in commuting distance can apply to this position. The appointment is limited to the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals. Granting of a contract to the successful candidate on this IC position will be limited to the availability of funding. Extension of the contract is subject to the extension of the mandate and/or the availability of funds. This is not a staff position. As the international tribunals are not integrated in the Secretariat, there is no expectation of service or reassignment within the United Nations Secretariat.
