Credit Risk Analyst

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Credit, the Credit Analyst is accountable for assessing and analyzing the financial capability of customers applying for loans. The analyst recommends approval or decline based on timely and quality assessments of credit facility proposals. These evaluations are grounded in sound credit and financial principles to provide expert opinions to approving authorities for informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

The Credit Risk Analyst shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure that all approved loans meet creditworthiness criteria.
  • Provide recommendations tied to the analysis and assessment of credit risk for all credit applications.
  • Assess, analyze, and interpret complex financial information in loan applications.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit memos, including necessary risk analysis and required ratios, and give recommendations on each loan application to the Head Office and Board Credit Committee.
  • Develop and prepare spreadsheets and models to support the analysis of new and existing credit applications.
  • Provide advice to all stakeholders in the bank regarding credit risk management policies, practices, and standards.
  • Ensure the bank maintains a quality loan portfolio.
  • Support the Head of Credit in the effective implementation of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Framework to establish a risk-based system that identifies, measures, monitors, controls, and reports bank-wide risks.
  • Evaluate obtained information to gain a thorough understanding of business parameters that create profit/value and the associated risks.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Credit from time to time.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • A University Degree or equivalent qualification in Business Administration, Banking, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the banking sector, with at least three (3) years in credit analysis or credit risk analysis (particularly in MSMEs).
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, ratios, and concepts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is an added advantage.
