Reporting to: Mechanical Engineer

Duration: Permanent

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Equipment Monitoring:

  • Conduct continuous and periodic monitoring of plant assets, including pumps, conveyors, crushers, mills, and other critical assets.
  • Use predictive maintenance tools such as vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, and ultrasound to assess the condition of equipment.
  • Gather and analyze data from equipment sensors and monitoring systems.
  • Diagnose faults such as misalignment, imbalance, bearing failures, lubrication problems, and more using specialized Micorlog software and lubrication analysis.
  • Provide recommendations based on data analysis to improve equipment reliability and prevent breakdowns.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to schedule repairs and maintenance based on condition-based monitoring data.
  • Participate in the development of maintenance strategies to reduce downtime and improve the efficiency of the mining plant.
  • Prepare detailed reports of condition monitoring results, including charts, graphs, and diagnostic data.
  • Present findings to engineering, operation, and management teams with actionable recommendations.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures to prevent recurrence.
  • Recommend design changes or process improvements based on failure analysis.
  • Work with the engineering team to improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Propose and implement improvements to condition monitoring programs and technologies.
  • Stay updated on new developments in predictive maintenance technologies and methodologies.
  • Ensure that all monitoring and maintenance activities comply with safety standards, policies, and regulations.
  • Promote a safe working environment by identifying potential risks and hazards in equipment performance.
  • Provide training and support to plant maintenance personnel on condition monitoring techniques and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Assist in the development of condition monitoring procedures and standards
  • Develop and execute PMO Project “Preventive Maintenance Optimisation” to keep the execution of the Preventive Maintenance program up to date.
  • Work closely with planners and work execution teams to understand and improve issues related to work instructions.
  • Analyse the performance of the PM’s and their relevance with regards to preventing failure as per conclusions of root cause analysis.
  • Coach and support the execution team in the development of comprehensive standard jobs.
  • Ensure equipment strategies are updated based on outcomes of failure investigations where appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain criticality assessment for the process plant.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic plan for defect elimination and managing bad actors.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • +5 years of experience in condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and reliability engineering within heavy industry sectors such as mining.
  • Vibration Analysis Level, II, or III certification (ISO 18436 or similar is must).
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or other relevant qualifications.
  • Machine lubrication engineer certification or similar (advantageous).
  • NDT certification (advantageous).
  • Condition monitoring certification

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficient in vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, ultrasound, Equipment alignment, and other condition-monitoring techniques.
  • Familiar with RCM and data analysis tools such as SKF, Emerson, or CSI technologies.
  • Good Communication Skills, English & Swahili
  • Demonstrates a high concern for health, safety and environment

GEOTECHNICAL SUPERINTENDENT (1 VACANCY)

Responsibilities:

  • Work in compliance with ISO 14001 and 45001 Standards
  • Providing geotechnical input into the mining & mine planning process
  • Maintain the Mine’s Ground Control Management Plan, with regular updates to the Ground Control Management Plan document.
  • Geotechnical stope designs
  • Design of stope and development support e.g. primary support & cable bolt layouts
  • Design, installation, evaluation & analysis of underground stability monitoring systems
  • Maintaining a 3D Geotechnical block model (mining rock mass model) for stope stability and ground support evaluations
  • Maintaining a Life of Mine stress model & utilizing the model for stope sequencing, evaluation of seismic risk & recommendations to mitigate geotechnical risks that might arise during the LOM.
  • Raisebore stability analysis
  • Pillar design & analysis
  • Backfill model analysis.
  • Rock mass & structural logging data analysis & validation
  • Ground support project costing, budgeting & management of change
  • Training of Geotechnical Engineers
  • Hydrogeological work – design and monitoring of hydrogeological systems & analysis of technical reports
  • Collecting, analyzing and interpreting geotechnical data
  • Ensuring the production team adheres to the approved mine ground support standards.
  • Ensuring ground control audits and quality assurance programs are carried out regularly and documented.
  • Reviewing standard ground support profiles
  • Maintaining adequate stocks of ground support consumables on site
  • Providing monthly consumption reports on ground support installed
  • Ensuring ground control training programmes are carried out where required.
  • Managing ground support trials and making recommendations on their performance (pull testing of installed ground supports)
  • Ensuring all significant ground falls are inspected and reported.
  • Advising on ground control matters and generating relevant/specific ground control designs
  • Generate weekly and end of month Geotechnical reports.
  • Promote health and safety in the workplace.
  • Compliance with all statutory regulations and procedures
  • Compliance with all the Company’s Policies and Procedures
  • Establish and meet timelines at all times.
  • Upward reporting as required.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering Degree preferably with a specialization in Ground Control, Geotechnical Engineering or Rock Mechanics.

Experience and Skills Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in an underground mining environment.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years post graduate industry underground mining experience preferably in precious metals using narrow vein long hole stoping.
  • Proficiency with geotechnical design software such as FLAC3D, Dips, UnWedge, RS2, RS3, Map3D and Deswik mine design
  • Proficiency with Ticker3D, Trace and mXrap
  • Able to work safely and not create or ignore hazards.
  • Able to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to interpret mine layouts.
