Job Summary

• To directly manage a relationship covering a portfolio of Global Corporate banking customers with specific focus on the Global corporate – large in Arusha, Kilimanjaro and Manyara regions.
• To be a key member of the Corporate Banking Team, driving business performance within that specific business/market segment.
• Skills sharing and coaching of members of the corporate team.
• To personally relationship manage and sustain a portfolio of Corporate Banking customers with specific focus on the Large Corporate, building long term relationships founded on efficient and reliable support for their business. This is achieved particularly through quick risk decisions and managing consistency and quality of operational service.
• The primary objective is to maximize risk-adjusted portfolio contribution, while balancing the requirements for lending to all such entities vis a vis Reputation risk for the bank.
• The jobholder will be responsible for business development both with new customers and with existing customers where they are expected to increase “wallet share”.
The job holder will be expected to develop an intimate knowledge of the local corporate market covering diverse industries, relevant regulatory framework and demonstrate the ability to meet with senior management of the Corporates for negotiation of financial transactions

Job Description

Main accountabilities and approximate time split

Sales and Service: 60%

·        Grow the industry/segment portfolio profitability by identifying new and existing customer potential including sales opportunities and new product promotion initiatives.

·        Formulate business development strategies and objectives for the industry/segment to meet changing market needs.

·        Monitor conformance of industry/segment using new relationship development procedures.

·        Monitor results of customer surveys for the industry/segment against target service quality standards.

·        Monitor levels of complaints and quality of handling for the industry/segment portfolio.

·        Proactively research, competitive threats/opportunities within the segment’s market and geographical area.

·        Communicate all key messages to customers including agreed service standards, negotiated pricing, relationship team contact points (including introductions to new personnel) and new product changes.

·        Conduct annual and if appropriate, interim reviews of customers borrowing facilities

·        Conduct annual and if appropriate, interim reviews with non-borrowing customers

·        Determine the products that are most effective in meeting customers’ needs and be able to sell these at short notice both reactively and proactively.

Business Management 30%

·          Manage performance of the industry/portfolio against key financial (risk-adjusted contribution) sales, service and operational targets.

·          Champion, manage and monitor implementation of change impacting the portfolio and business area and arising from central and local corporate change programmes.

·          Consult customer owners/managers on financial/credit issues and general business practice/ideas.

·          Develop Customer Relationship Plans for customers in portfolio.

·          Work closely with the Head – Corporate Coverage in driving and delivering business performance in the Business Area.

·        Research, create and follow up on a target list for potential new business

·        Identify priority customers using the Customer Relationship Planning templates to assess their present and potential contribution.

·        Control and quality of the portfolio, using available triggers and adherence to Risk management guidelines and policies.

·        Stand in for the Head – Corporate Coverage  (as appropriate) in his absence, attending to client management and providing leadership to Unit.

Staff Management 10%

·        To be a key member of the Corporate Banking Team, driving business performance within that specific business/market segment.

·        Skills sharing and coaching of members of the corporate team.

·        Help in leading the ARMs and Corporate Credit Managers within the Corporate Banking team using a team based management approach.

·        Help team members to identify strengths and weaknesses in their own skills and attributes, review their self-development plans and ensure training and development needs are accommodated.

·        Help in coaching team members on relationship development, service quality and risk.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

Accountability: Sales and Service: – 70%

  • Conduct annual review of customers’ borrowing facilities (and interim review if customer circumstances [risk profile] dictate).
  • Actively seek to grow own portfolio and cross sell to ensure delivery of set Targets as per current PD template.
  • Consult customer owners/managers on financial/credit issues and general business practice/ideas.
  • Determine the key messages, e.g., agreed service standards, and negotiated pricing, relationship team contact points (including introductions to new personnel) and new product changes. Calculating the most appropriate means of communicating them to customers.
  • Deal with, and find resolutions for, customer complaints.
  • Determine the products that are most effective in meeting customers’ needs and be able to sell these, at short notice, both reactively and proactively.
  • Plan and co-ordinate any marketing approaches for new business and actively develop existing relationships. Co-ordinate approaches to the portfolio by businesses across the Group.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to risk service standards.

Accountability: Business Management: – 25%

 

  • Research, create and follow up on a target list for potential new business.
  • Identify priority customers using the Customer Prioritization Guidelines to assess their present and potential contribution.
  • Gather all the required information that is needed to prepare and assess credit applications.  Role holder will be expected to input certain key information such as judgmental information.
  • Monitor and control the quality of the portfolio using “Condition of Sanction” triggers where possible and in accordance with RM guidelines and Bank policy.
  • Manage “Early Warning List” customers to reduce risk, following H.O. and Regional guidance provided.
  • Adhere to procedures and guidelines within the BB RMCD.

Risk and Control Objective

  • In the event of major issues in the business unit, act as crisis coordinator and allocate tasks to the crisis teams.
  • Review the risk and compliance profiles of the business unit on a regular basis and provide consultative support to the Managing Director on changes that are required to rebalance risk and reward where required.
  • Understanding of own role in the end-to-end processes in which you play a part, including applicable risks and controls.
  • Adhere to Absa’s policies and procedures applicable to own role, demonstrating sound judgment and responsible risk management.
  • Keep up to date on all regulatory changes and can articulate the impact to the Business, be well informed on the industry thinking.

Job Summary

The opportunity exists for a senior and influential Regional Head of Compliance role in a leading pan African bank, to have oversight across our East Africa markets (Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania), supporting the Africa Regional Operations (African Operations outside of South Africa) in the management of compliance risks (regulatory, financial crime, conduct and reputation) across the abovementioned jurisdictions. The role reports to the Chief Compliance Officer, Africa Regional Operations (ARO).

Job Description

The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing and managing compliance programmes and posture within the designated region. This role ensures that the organisation adheres to relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies, while promoting a culture of integrity and ethical behaviour. The role is also critical in ensuring the organisation’s compliance framework is robust, effective and aligned with its business goals.

As such, the successful candidate will have significant experience in compliance, risk management and regulatory affairs, underpinned by a strong understanding of compliance regulations and frameworks. Additionally, excellent communication, and analytical and problem solving skills, with proven leadership ability in managing teams, is sought.

The role is pivotal in being the link between the region and the Centre, and will support the Country Heads of Compliance in the oversight of compliance risks, and works closely with the Chief Compliance Officer, ARO and country teams to influence and contribute to strategically important regulatory outcomes and policy positions.

As a member of the ARO Compliance Management committee (MANCO), together with other members of the MANCO, the incumbent will provide leadership on the articulation and execution of the Regional business strategy.
