Purpose of the position:
Pole Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the control of all activities around the treatment plant, from loading of the vessel to delivery of quality treated poles to the Treated Pole Warehouse.
This includes:
- Chemical mixing
- Quality tests
- Operating the Treating Plant
Key Result Areas and accountabilities:
- Translation of production schedule to a day-to-day operational treatment plan
- Ensuring the availability of all raw material and chemicals
- Regular testing of the chemical products in a controlled laboratory environment
- Delivery of accurate and consistent production reports
- Implementation of and compliance with all health, safety & environment provisions
- Liaison with the workshop for maintenance and any emergency repairs
- Following the charge sheet instructions
- Recording all particulars of the charge
- Checking MC of poles to <25% before treatment
- Regular check of sapwood ratio and density as per procedure
- Checking chemical solution strength to be > 5.5% before treatment
- Checking chemical penetration and distribution as per procedure.
- One sample pole from a day’s charge to be tested for fibre stress and recording force as per procedure and customer requirement.
- Proper records keeping and housekeeping
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies required to perform this role:
- The Operator will have at least 1 year experience in a similar production environment
- Excellent understanding of quality control measures recordkeeping in line with ISO 9001
- Proven operational skills & ability to lead other people
- Ability to plan, schedule work and manage time
- Should work with minimum supervision
- Knowledge of health & safety procedures and ability to identify hazards
- Basic understanding of first aid will be a distinct advantage
- Proven ability to deal with chemicals in a production environment
- Should be proficient in English: reading, writing & speaking
- Must be able to work in shift
- Ability to deliver and to meet targets
- Perform other related duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualification
- Relevant degree in Wood Technologies
- Years of experience
- At least 1 year in a similar role.
