Responsibilities
- Accurately assist driller in carrying out of blast hole drilling to a design pattern using a Sandvick drill rig.
- Ensure assist read and accurately follow mine instruction plans with skill and precision ensuring holes are drilled to design line, gradient and profile.
- Assist set up and troubleshoot on Blast Hole Drill rigs, specifically on the Sandvik rigs.
- Comply with relevant Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations
- Must carry out standard workplace inspection practices and procedures and prepare the areas for drilling, in accordance with mine safety procedures.
- Compliance with Standards using relevant information and individual judgment to evaluate and determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, and Barrick standards and procedures.
- Participation in all applicable safety, prestart and shift team meetings
- Ensure that safety standards, FLRA, Safe Working Procedures and complied in full in order to achieve Zero Lost Time Injury (LTI) Frequency Rate.
- Good House Keeping in the Rig Cab and drilling floor.
- Ensure trimming and set up times for the drill rig are optimal; and delays due to change out of RDT are minimized.
- Ensure efficient utilization of resources; including fuel, drill bits, hammers, fire extinguishers, etc; and ensure NO abuse.
- Ensure operation of equipment with ZERO damage.
- Report breakdowns, equipment damages, safety near misses, incidents and accidents according to the laid-out procedures including completing the Shift report at the end of each shift.
- To be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety, efficient utilization of the resources, Continuous Improvement ideas and Projects; and encourage teamwork across the departments.
- Any other related duties that may be assigned to fulfill the overall business objective.
Qualification requirements
- Secondary School Certificate / Vocational Training/ Apprenticeship in a related field / college program in heavy equipment operation.
- Bits and other RDT selection and performance
- Team Player and result oriented.
- A valid Tanzanian driving license will be advantageous.
- Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness
Experience and competencies needed.
- Good knowledge of mining safety regulations and best practice.
- Ability to act and operate as part of a team and possess a “can do” attitude that will motivate the crew to action company directives, regardless of personal opinion.

Responsibilities
- Accurately drill a series of Blast Holes to a design pattern using a Sandvik DI650i DTH drill rig.
- Read and accurately follow mine instruction plans with skill and precision ensuring holes are drilled to design line, gradient and profile.
- Communicate with surveyors, geologists, and engineers to optimize drill patterns and meters.

- Closely monitoring the progress of trainees through training reports and discussions with department managers and taking appropriate action to ensure that participants achieve the required standard of competency in a safe and cost-efficient manner.

Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and Barrick health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Report all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) issues via an incident report.

- Attain and maintain relevant licenses and authorizations required to execute allocated duties e.g., Basic Rigging, Working at Heights, Machine Operation i.e., Forklift.
- Fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment with welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools.
- Fabricate, weld, and install chutes, boxes, pipes, reducers, bends, and Y piece.
- Repair and maintain metal equipment and structures of various sizes.
- Read and interpret diagrams, sketches, and blueprints to determine operations, required materials and time frames for projects.
- Apply best maintenance practice on repair of chutes, steel tanks, pipes, and steel structures.
- Apply standard paint on new steel structure and any repair on steel works.
- Assess welded surfaces, structures, and components to identify errors.
- Examine pressure vessels, tanks, chutes, pipes to locate defects such as leaks, weak spots, and defective sections so that they are repaired.
- Fabricate, fit, and assemble the structural components of various mechanical systems.
- Perform any task as instructed by report line supervisor.
- Perform basic mechanical fitting, rubber lining, scaffolding and rigging works as instructed by your supervisor.
- Clean equipment, using scrapers, wire brushes, and cleaning solvents to ensure equipment or work area remains clean and tidy.
- Clean, maintain, repair, and rebuild mechanical parts, components and equipment as directed by the Supervisor.
- Conduct regular plant and steel structures inspections.
- Complete breakdown and preventive maintenance work orders on time, create subsequent notifications, and provide feedback on work performed.
- Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies then organize with supervisor.
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Responsible for shift handover at area of responsibility.
Qualification requirements
- Technical/ Vocational School, Apprenticeship training, on-the-job training (FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test or its Equivalent).
- Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.
Experience and competencies needed.
- Minimum of 3 years post apprenticeship experience working on Heavy Mobile Equipment in surface operations.
- Plant maintenance experience on Mills, crushers, conveyors, compressors, pumps, CIL tanks etc.
- Working knowledge of safety standards of equipment.
- Previous maintenance experience in industrialized plant is beneficial.
- Experience using multiple welding machines including the arc welder, TIG, and MIG.
- Excellent knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.
- Experience in open cast and Underground mining essential.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities
- Assisting in the implementation of the NMGML Occupational Health and Safety Management System at North Mara Mine.
- Assisting the implementation of ISO 45001:2018 standard at NMGML.
- Assisting the Safety Supervisor to ensure all North Mara Mine activities comply with the requirements of the Company Safety and Health Standards and any applicable legislative requirements.
- Providing visible and high-level Safety support to all North Mara Departments and Business Partners/Contractors to ensure the safe and efficient operation of North Mara Mine operations and associated infrastructure.
- Assist to maintain the nine elements of Barrick Safety and Health Management System at North Mara Mine.
- Ensure all site equipment’s is being maintained and monitored via a comprehensive system which is transparent and can be audited at any time, e.g. pre-start checks, maintenance scheduling and documented fault reporting and rectification.
- Actively facilitate the Baseline/Formal Risk Assessment, JHA, FLRA processes and promote a risk management culture at North Mara Mine.
- Ensure regular safety inspections are conducted within all areas of the mine site including facilities manned by contractors.
- Assist in accident / incident investigations with the relevant supervisors.
- Facilitate accident/incident investigations as required by using company approved incident investigation analysis methodologies.
- Developing safety training packages.
- Facilitate Safety trainings to the North Mara Gold Mine workforce and contractors.
- Provide daily feedback report of the activities carried out to the Safety Supervisor.
- Prepare safety statistics on a weekly, monthly, and annually basis and report trends.
- Prepare a monthly report of activities and statistics conducted during the period in an accurate and timely manner for inclusion in the site-wide monthly report.
- Conduct regular safety observations to determine the level of safety standards compliance, PPE compliance and requirements and provide safety coaching.
- Liaise with other sections within the Department to ensure integrated operation of the department and to achieve stated objectives.
- Attend relevant departmental safety related meetings as agreed/assigned by the OHS leadership.
- Ensure timely follow up of incident and other safety related corrective actions close out.
- Regularly liaise with other Departmental heads and their staff as required.
- Actively participate in the review of safe working procedures.
- Maintain a pro-active approach to all aspects of operational safety and encourage teamwork within the department.
