Responsibilities:
- Issuing Survey instructions to the relevant Mine Captains and ensuring the mining department and contractors adhere to these instructions.
- Ensuring all fired rounds are correctly recorded so as to monitor the development trend of every active heading.
- Provide survey support to ensure mine production and development is done as per design and following established standards and procedures while ensuring minimum disruption to the production and development cycle.
- Ensure precision Survey equipment is are kept in good serviceable condition by carrying out regular checks, using permissible adjustments and keep track of equipment performance for scheduling specialized maintenance and authorized dealers’ shops
- Implement BGML employee performance management process to ensure optimum employee performance and identify and report any substandard performances or behaviors.
- Performing minimum Quality control processes as per standard procedures.
- Provide comprehensive end of shift reports.
- Keep track of current Mine Instructions and archiving obsolete ones.
- Provide effective on-the-job training and coaching to ensure employees gain new skills and achieve their maximum potential.
- Ensure there is adherence to all BGML policies and procedures.
- Ensure all surveys are done to exceed the minimum accuracy standards specified in the survey code of practice.
- Ensure safe work practices, i.e. attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting, and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Qualification Requirements:
- Degree in Mining Survey, Land Surveying, or Geometrics Engineering from a recognized Tertiary Education Institution
- At Least Class “D” Valid Driving License
Experience and Skills Requirements:
- At least Two years of working experience in an Underground Mining environment.
- Experience in Software – Mincard, Surpac, Deswik, Maptek point studio.
- Experience in using and operating Leica and Trimble survey instruments ie Total stations and RTK GPS
- Experience in using Survey scanners for both Underground and Surface.
- Knowledge of any relevant surveying, CAD, or mine design software is beneficial
- Knowledge of MS Office suite of programs is beneficial Sound practical experience in any conventional surveying method
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication in English , both writing and verbal
- Hazard identification and Risk assessment
- Mine Health and Safety Act Awareness

Survey Technician at Barrick

Responsibilities:
- Ensure safe work practices, i.e., attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting, and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental Policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Development pickups and pickup processing
- Ensure all fired rounds are correctly recorded to monitor the development trend of every active mining heading.
- Able to do DGPS Base setup system
- Compiling the information in a system that it can be retrieved and used
- Ensure all survey station reports and mine stakeout plans are filed correctly.
- Ensure all Survey stations are positioned and placed correctly as directed by the Mine Surveyor
- Regular stock-taking of survey consumables to ensure there is at least the minimum required always kept in the survey store.
- Installation of Grade pins
- Installation of lasers & Stations
- Mark-up of Holes EH, PH
- Face mark-ups
- Setup of instrument below station u/g
- Assists the Mine Surveyor in any task required for the maintenance of Survey control”
- Numbering batteries of all electronic equipment and ensuring they are charged correctly, keeping a record of the mandatory discharging process of all such batteries.
- Daily vehicle cleaning checks and timely reporting of any defects. Liaise with the Maintenance Department when reporting defects at regular service intervals.
- Borehole survey for production holes(downhole and up hole.)
Qualification Requirements:
- A Survey Technician’s Certificate.
- Technician certificate in any of the survey-related fields of Geomatics, cartography, Civil engineering, and mining survey, coupled with experience of working as a survey assistant in an underground mining environment.

- Minimum 2 years working on underground mining surveying
- Sufficient on-the-job training and working experience through other documented roles in underground mining surveying that are considered acceptable by company authorities
- Excellent communication in English, both writing and verbal
- Knowledge of MS Office suite of programs is beneficial Sound practical experience in any conventional surveying method
- Drone pilot licensee from TCAA adding advantage
