Position Summary
Ifakara seeks a qualified Assistant Nursing Officer – (study nurse) to work within the Mwananyamala TB Clinical. The Assistant Nursing Officer will play a key role in the provision of research nursing services, day-to-day planning, and execution of clinical study activities, and to act as a team player for a clinical study team consisting of research nurses and study physicians.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in clinical research study as per research protocol, GCP, SOPs.
- Perform Sample collection ( Including Femoral blood collection) and storage.
- Recording vaccination consent and marking completion.
- Administer Investigational Product (IP) and non-IP medications and procedures under the guidance of study clinician.
- Complete and filling of specimen transfer form.
- Accessing and maintaining accurate patient records, adhering to confidentiality as per the study
- Maintain appropriate working relationships between the hospital staff and IHI at large.
Academic Qualification
- Diploma in Nursing.
- Registered with Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC).
- Good experience with research studies especially in clinical settings, including TB studies.
Professional Experience
- 1-2 years working experience.
Skills and Competencies
- Patient Management skills.
- Team worker, able to work in a multicultural environment, punctual and high integrity.
- Skills in conducting clinical research including screening, and recruitment of patients to the study.
- Moderate computer knowledge / ICT skills.
- Effective organizational and intercommunication skills, and teamwork.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, and able to work flexible hours including
- Adhere to IHI core values and research ethics.
- Good command of both English and Swahili languages. Attentive to details and keen for completion.

Position Summary
Ifakara seeks a qualified Research Officer to fill an internship position. The intern will work closely with the rabies project staff and will be supporting, managing, and overseeing rabies surveillance activities, including contact tracing, integrated bite case management (IBCM) implementation with other stakeholders, data cleaning and analysis, and liaising with government stakeholders in planning and implementing rabies control activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist and perform contact tracing of rabies cases and exposures.
- Assist cleaning and analyses rabies datasets.
- Assist supporting the team in the review of IBCM data and rabies samples collected by veterinarians or livestock field officers across the study sites, and address queries from the data management team, and monitors to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Assist in the development and updating of study documents, including protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs), to maintain compliance with evolving research standards.
- Assist Conduct all activities in a professional and ethical manner, upholding the highest standards of accountability and integrity.
- Assist preparing, presenting, and publishing research papers based on research outcomes.
- Assist additional duties assigned by the project leader or research management team to support the overall success of the project.
Academic Qualification
- BVM or BSC degree in either Biology, Laboratory Science, Ecology, Zoology/Wildlife etc or data related discipline from a reputable institute.
- Proficiency in the use of Excel, Access, Ms Word and similar applications will be a plus.
- Proven experience of performing compilation and data entry into DHIS2 or any databases.

Professional Experience
- A minimum of 1-year research experience with demonstrated analytical skills is required, along with proficiency in statistical analysis software such as R or Python.
