Rufiji District Council is a local government administrative body in Tanzania. It is one of the districts in the Pwani Region, which is located in the eastern part of the country. Rufiji District Council covers an area of approximately 14,500 square kilometers and has a population of around 250,000 people. The district is named after the Rufiji River, which flows through its territory. The river plays a significant role in the district’s economy, as it supports agriculture, fishing, and transportation activities.
The district is divided into several administrative wards, including Chumbi, Ikwiriri, Kibiti, Kiongoroni, Mandawa, Maparoni, Mbwara, Mkongo, Mtawanya, Mwaseni, Ngorongo, Nyamisati, Nyamwage, Pande Mikoma, Salale, and Umwe. Each ward is further divided into villages and hamlets.
Rufiji District Council provides a wide range of public services to its residents. These include education, healthcare, water supply and sanitation, infrastructure development, agriculture support services, and social welfare programs. The council is responsible for managing primary and secondary schools in the district and ensuring access to quality education for all children.
