Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (SUWASA) is an autonomous
Water Supply organization mandated to provide Water and Sanitation
Services within the urban area of Sumbawanga. It was established in
January 1998 under Act No. 8 of 1997, repealed by Act No. 5 of 2019.

SUWASA is advertising four vacant posts below:WATER PRODUCTION ENGINEER II, WATER LABORATORY TECHNICIAN II, ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN II and METER READER II for which suitably qualified and competent Tanzanian citizens are invited to apply.
JOB TITLE: METER READER II – SUWAS B (5 POSTS)
Direct Entry Qualifications
Holder of a Form IV with Trade Test ll/l in Plumbing/ Pipe Fitter certificate or its equivalent from a recognized and a reputable Institution.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Read all meters.
- Keep track of all meters in their area of operation.
- Distribute water bills to all customers whose meters have been read.
- Prepare meter reading and customer bills distribution report for their area.
- Prepare adjustment forms for customers with problematic bills.
- Clean clogged water meters causing them to fail and customers not to get water.
- Check and ensure that all meters in the zone are in working condition.
- Receive and address customer complaints related to meters.
- Distribute messages and leaflets from the Authority to customers.
- Follow up debts from customers that have not paid their bills.
- Inspects water connections to identify illegal connections; and
- Perform any other duties related to the above assigned by superiors.

JOB TITLE: WATER PUMP OPERATOR GRADE II – SUWAS B
Direct Entry Qualifications
Holder of Form IV with Trade Test grade I/II in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering/Pump Engineering, Government recognized and a reputable Institution and must be computer literate.
Duties and Responsibilities.
- Operate the water pumps according to agreed schedules and ensures that the right quantity of water is pumped from the storage tanks;
- Monitor water level in the storage water tanks;
- Carry out service and maintenance of water pumps, dosing pumps, water filters and gate valves;
- Monitor availability of electricity and record on electricity power failure;
- Ensure that the required dosage of chlorine/chemicals is administered according to the required standards;
- Ensure cleanliness of water pumps, pump house dam and surroundings;
- Maintain records of plants and pump performance and reports any breakdowns immediately;
- Record the amount of pumped water at established time intervals;
- Make meter reading of electricity consumption at established time intervals;
- Record pressure gauge performance at established intervals;
- Make rain gauge readings at established time intervals;
- Keep in safe custody water treatment chemicals and reagents;
- Advise on the stock level of chemicals; and
- Perform any other duties related to the above assigned by supervisor.
JOB TITLE: WATER LABORATORY TECHNICIAN GRADE II – SUWAS D (1 POST)
Direct Entry Qualifications
Holder of a Diploma/FTC in Water Laboratory Technology or its equivalent from a recognized and a reputable Institution and must be a computer literate.

- Assist in carrying out water sample tests every day in order to establish the types and quantities of water treatment;
- Assist in carrying out analysis of raw water and treated water;
- Assist in collecting water samples at different parts of the water treatment plant for analysis and recording;
- Assist in carrying out water and waste water treatment processes;
- Assist in carrying out physical, chemical and bacteriological analysis of water and waste water;
- Monitor to ensure that equipment in the laboratory are in working order by requesting regular servicing and regular calibration:
- Record and maintain proper records for laboratory investigations;
- Prepare list of chemicals and reagents required for laboratory investigations;
- Draft periodical performance reports on laboratory activities;
- Monitor water quality and quantity from reservoir and other water sources, water treatment plants and water distribution systems and ensures compliance with the prescribed Tanzania standards for drinking water and advice; and
- Perform any other duties related to the above assigned by superiors.
JOB TITLE: WATER PRODUCTION ENGINEER GRADE II – SUWAS. E (1 POST)
Direct Entry Qualifications
Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Environmental/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized and a reputable University/Institution and must be registered with Engineers Registration Board and a computer literate.

- Provide support to ensure that standards and procedures so established for water treatment are implemented and strictly adhered to.
- Provide support on ensuring that there is efficient and effective management of water sources.
- Provide support on ensuring that there is continuous monitoring in terms of water levels in storage tanks and maintenance of water sources structures.
- Participate in keeping records of water production and treatment.
- Provide support on ensuring that odor of the water is maintained and that water springs are free from pollution.
- Participate on ensuring that water pumping machines are in good operating conditions at all times.
- Provide support on scheduling maintenance of water pumps and other related equipment and machines.
- Provide support on timely preparation of resources (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports) on raw and clean water levels, electricity, manpower, water pollution, water color and encountered problems with their solutions.
- Perform any other duties related to the above as assigned by superiors
