Background:
The Strengthening High Impact Interventions for an AIDS-free Generation
(AIDSFree) Project, funded by the U.S. Agency for International
Development (USAID), supports the implementation of quality HIV and AIDS
services in police and prison health facilities managed by the Tanzania
Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA).
Based at facility-level, the Clinical Care Intern will provide direct
implementation support in designated Aids-free-supported Police and
Prisons health facility/facilities to improve performance in routine
clinical management of PLHIV to achieve daily outputs and outcomes.
The Intern will be responsible for provision of health education and counselling on HIV testing and enrollment to ART The incumbent will also be expected to participate in provision of ART adherence counselling; collection and coordination of Viral Load Samples and results; as well as enrollment and follow up of TB preventive therapy (TPT).

Job Description
Internship Outcomes:
By the end of the internship, the intern will have gained experience and exposure to:
- Tanzania and USAID/PEPFAR program strategies in identification, enrollment, and retention of PLHIV
- Clinical management of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs
- Programs monitoring through collection, reporting and review of weekly, monthly and quarterly data
- Coordination of site-level activities in pursuit of the project outputs and outcome(s)
Job Responsibilities:
- Support site-level HIV Viral Load Testing activities
- Support identification; scheduling and tracking of clients eligible for HVL testing including off- schedule planning and implementation during after-hours and weekends
- Fill/complete HVL request forms
- Assist ART nurse/ clinician in HVL sample collection to meet daily targets
- Work with HVL Focal Persons to coordinate sample transportation and receipt of results
- Assist clinical management based on HVL results-Improve retention of PLHIV on ART
- Documentation of referral points;
- Assisting in same-day tracking of ‘missapp’ clients;
- Coordination of tracking of LTFU with CBHS providers and documentation of tracking outcome.
- Support proper categorization of PLHIV (such as stable/unstable) to inform clinical management
- Supporting identification and enrolment of eligible PLHIV on TB preventive therapy (TPT).
- Support clinical management of PLHIV – including management of high HVL results and drug side effects (e.g. IPT)
- Support site-level documentation to ensure that all tracking outcomes, HVL sample collection. HVL results are updated in respective paper and electronic registers and IPT initiation, continuation and completion are reflected correctly
- Support weekly, monthly and quarterly data reporting to supervisor
Other duties
- Perform other technical and operational tasks fitting team needs as communicated by the supervisor
- A minimum of a Certificate or Diploma in Nursing or Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution
- Registration with Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council for nurses
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS
- Fluency in English language
