Employment Opportunities at Mwanza Urban Water and Sanitation Authority (MWAUWASA)

 
MWANZA URBAN WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION AUTHORITY (MWAUWASA) is one of the 25 selected water operators to participate in the Dutch WaterWorX program. It was selected by VITENS EVIDES INTERNATIONAL (VEI) from the Netherlands and signed a Water Operator Partnership (WOP) agreement under a program nicknamed ‘KARIBU MAJI MWANZA PROJECT’ to improve overall performance by building capacity of staff as both the partners mutually understand that capacity development is key to utility turn around in performance.

The WaterWorX, is a four years program that is largely funded by the government of the Netherlands. The program intends to achieve the following three key objectives at its completion: –
  • Increase WASH coverage, particularly in the Low Income Areas (SDG6) by serving 33,000 poor people by year 2021 with direct project investments and 100,000 people until 2021 as part of ongoing MWAUWASA
  • Reduce Non-Revenue Water by 10% point (pp) by year 2021.
  • Creating an enabling environment in terms of energy reduction, climate adaption, long term investment proposals.
  • Realize capacity development through training, short courses and gender equality propagating.
MWAUWASA and VEI are hereby inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced, dynamic and motivated Tanzanians to immediately work in tins program in the understated post.
For phase 1 of the project (2018 until 2020) we are looking for an enthusiastic Young expert, with focus on Asset Management and Investment proposal writing.
YOUNG EXPERT (1 POST)
Tins position offers young Tanzanian professionals the opportunity to gain experience with working in an international environment within die water sector. The young professional will be part of die Karibu Maji Project and temporarily employed by VEI through MWAUWASA.

Monthly Salary: TZS 1,188,000
Location: Based at MWAUWASA in Mwanza
Required minimum qualifications and attributes:
  • Must have a minimum of Bachelor of Science degree preferably in engineering.
  • Must have a demonstrable kinship with water services.
  • 8 years working experience of with max. 4 years within water sector
  • Fluent in English.
  • Tanzanian nationality.
  • Not yet permanent employed
  • Age should not be above 32 years.
  • He/she should show commitment to continue career in a water utility.
  • He/she should be empathetic, intercultural sensitive, learning- oriented, results-onented, cooperative, adaptive/flexible, stress resilient/coping, creative, innovative, and networking.
  • He/she should have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Duties .and responsibilities:
The Young Expert will be required to play die following roles at minimum:
  • Contribute to a Long term Infrastructure Strategy
  • Write (together with MWAUWASA staff) Investment proposals for water and sanitation services.
  • Contribute to Asset Management policy and implementation
  • Identification of innovation opportunities and technologies/ methodology within die scope of die project
  • Active participation in local/regional networks which exist in die field of water
  • Active learning from MWAUWASA employees and Short Term Experts from The Nederlands and apply gained knowledge and skills
  • Actively participate in an international Young expert Community of Practice
Provided training through the Young Expert Program
  • A two (2) weeks training will be offered in The Netherlands during die first and second year of employment
  • A Personal Development Plan to structure personal development
  • A personal coach will be assigned to die YE.
  • Online masterclasses are offered on specific wrater and sanitation related topics
Desired Achievement:
At die end of die employment, die Young Expert should be able:
  • The ability to make use of his/her expertise, instruments and skills in a specific development cooperation working situation
  • The Young Expert’s fulfilment of an intermediary role in networking and in die utilisation of die social media, as well as die possession of networking skills within an international context (Water network).
  • The conversion of dieoretical knowledge into practical solutions and activities
  • The ability to work in multidisciplinary projects and to devote due attention to institutional and capacity enhancement, a participatory approach and process management
  • The ability to communicate and transfer knowledge and skills to local/intemational staff
  • The exhibition of a professional attitude and social skills
