Job Purpose:
The CRO for Citibank Tanzania Limited will have overall responsibility for the bank’s risk management function, in lie with Citi Risk Management policies as well as Bank of Tanzania Regulatory Guidelines on Risk Management. The CRO will work closely with other Risk (Operational, Credit and Market Risk) colleagues in various regional offices in ensuring that the business adheres to Citi risk management policies, processes and procedures in its normal course of business. The CRO will from a Governance perspective also interact on an ongoing basis with the Citi Tanzania Risk Management Committee of the Board, in line with local Corporate Governance Frameworks. 
Key Responsibilities:
• Manages multiple risk resources or results within an area of multiple disciplines.
• Demonstrates technical expertise, strong understanding of products, tools and associated risks.
• Assesses the implications to other Risk disciplines when approving transactions or statistical methodologies. Engages and partners with key contacts globally to ensure successful implementation. Identifies potential mitigants of risk in particular situations or transactions.
• Analyzes risk in terms of its potential impact on the capital and PandL relevant to the business unit. Suggests alternatives to improve Citi’s position/approach.
• Anticipates client needs (internal and external) and proactively generates ideas to deliver innovative solutions and improve Citi’s competitiveness. Ensures that escalated client issues are resolved with urgency.
• Researches an issue/deal and identifies which elements of Risk or other functions that may be impacted, in the immediate sense and beyond. Identifies trends and determines the root causes of issues.
• Builds partnerships across functions/regions; collaborates with others to identify problems, provide solutions, and reach agreements. Creates and sustains a network of strong relationships. Influences decisions that have impact on company revenues and assets.
• Build a comprehensive understanding of the local market, key clients, local market conditions and the capabilities and practices of our competitors.
• Creates and sustains a network of strong partnerships with the business (relationship and product management) and other risk functions, particularly decision makers and influencers
• Experienced in partnering with global peers in leveraging and implementation of best practices
• In a managerial role, effectively manages and develops others; provides candid and honest feedback on an on-going basis.

• In an individual contributor role, is recognized as a subject matter expert of an area of specialization with broad exposure to general business functions.
• Supervises and manages fiduciary, disclosure, legal/regulatory documentation as appropriate.
• Builds awareness around regulatory matters and/or highlighting potential regulatory issues
• Links and measures impact of compliance and regulatory changes to portfolio and processes.
• Experience in dealing with internal and external counsel effectively.
• Familiar with Key Risk Indicators that are relevant to the areas covered; understands how they are collected; Defines acceptable deviations for levels/trends.
• Maintains budget responsibility and potential credit level approval limits for areas covered.
• Strong people and process management, mentoring and coaching ability
• Able to develop/implement talent plans incorporating the right staffing mix, succession and plans for professional/career development.
• Regularly communicates with staff and ensures key messages are cascaded throughout the organization.
• Oversees credit exposures within the portfolio, including stress testing and early problem recognition
• Identifies reputational risk and its operational /financial cause/effects. Manages situations that create risk and legal liabilities for Citi.
• Establish and maintain control mechanisms to ensure timely deliverables at the desired quality level
• Institutes measures for strong control environment for business
• Manages control structure through effective use of the Manager’s Control Assessment
• Understands businesses processes, risks and can identify control issues 
Qualifications
• Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business Commerce or Finance
• Business qualification (MBA) advantageous.
• Studies/Courses with good knowledge of Standard Banking Products.

Knowledge/Experience:
• Legal, Regulatory, Compliance proficiency in supervising and managing fiduciary, disclosure, legal/regulatory documentation as appropriate
• Firm knowledge and understanding of credit criteria, policies and procedures, risk and financial analysis, credit control and the application thereof.
• Proficient in stress testing impact of risk on portfolio value and capital required to support the business
• Familiar with Key Risk Indicators that are relevant to the areas covered; understands how they are collected.
• Report writing together with business analysis.
• Sound understanding of all existing and/or potential industry sectors where there are/could be lending exposures and display principles of good lending.
• Management of credit risk.
• Portfolio management.
• Hands on banking experience not less than 8 years
