TCRA Content Committee Member Opportunity
Opportunity to Serve in the Content Committee
The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has been established under the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority Act No. 12 of 2003. The TCRA is responsible for regulating the Communications Sector, which includes Broadcasting, Postal Telecommunication, and the Internet. For Broadcasting, the Authority’s mandate is limited to Tanzania mainland only. Section 26-(2) of the TCRA Act No. 12 of 2003 provides for the establishment of a Content Committee by the Minister responsible for Broadcasting. The Committee shall be composed of not more than five members, including the TCRA Board’s Member who shall be the Chairperson and four (4) members appointed in consultation with the Chairperson of the TCRA Board. Members of the Content Committee shall not be employees of TCRA or Broadcasting Organizations.

Applications for one (1) Position are now invited from suitably qualified Tanzanians wishing to be appointed as a Member of the Content Committee.
Qualifications To be appointed as a Member of the Content Committee, the applicant must have the following qualifications:
- (a) A graduate from a recognized University;
- (b) At least ten years’ experience in one or more of Management, Law, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Information Communication Technology, Broadcasting, Communication, or Culture;
- (c) Knowledge of the broadcasting industry;
- (d) Fulfill the requirement of having no conflict of interest as defined in Section 11 of the TCRA Act, 2003, and will not have any financial or other interests which will likely prejudicially affect the carrying out of all functions under this Part;
- (e) Willing to serve as a member;
- (f) Ability to represent the interests and opinions of people living in all different parts of the country;
- (g) Ability to perform the functions and duties of a Member competently and honestly.
Duties and Responsibilities

The Committee shall have such powers conferred to it under Section 27 of The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority Act No. 12 of 2003 and other powers conferred to it under Sections 5 and 6 of the TCRA Act and Sections 173 and 174 of the Electronic and Postal Communication Act of 2010. Members of the Committee shall perform the following main functions stipulated under Section 27 of the TCRA Act as follows:
- (a) Advise the Sector Minister on broadcasting policy;
- (b) Monitor and regulate broadcast content;
- (c) Handle complaints from operators and consumers; and
- (d) Monitor broadcasting ethics compliance.

The Committee shall have such functions as the Authority may confer to the Committee.

Any other duties and functions determined by the Authority in accordance with the Act.
