Job Summary
To identify and engage with new-to-bank corporate clients operating in Absa presence countries that do not have an existing banking relationship with the Bank through selling the Bank’s corporate banking value proposition. Role will include identifying of target clients, originating and qualifying the opportunity, facilitating the on-boarding process, seeking Credit approval for facilities and executing and implementing approved borrowing facilities, products and services.
This role is suited to a seasoned Corporate Banker ( 7-10 years ) with track record of originating and executing sizeable transactions on the African continent. Must have existing relationships with CIB profiled clients with business operations in Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. B-degree in Commerce, Sales & Marketing or Finance; and/or any other suitable academic field of study is required.
This is an opportunity for a “Rain Maker” with a track record of growing the client portfolio as a result of effective up-selling and cross-selling; and seamlessly acquiring new-to-bank clients regularly
Job Description
- Origination/Acquisition
- Maintain an active calling program with non-banked corporate clients operating in Absa presence countries (annual revenues of $20m and greater) with the primary purpose of securing a primacy relationship with the target client, i.e. making Absa the client’s primary or co-primary bank.
- Identify, research and create a target list of potential new clients for sourcing and engagement.
- Identified potential clients are to be called and appointments scheduled to engage and win over these clients’ banking business through proper understanding of client’s business operations, and subsequent provision of suitable banking products and services like transactional banking, working capital & debt, global markets and Retail & Business Banking add-on products and services.
- Use a Client Service Team (CST) process to appropriately solution the client, i.e. position potential new clients with internal stakeholders like CREDIT, Product Partners, and Support & Operational Services to demonstrate value and potential revenue benefits that target new clients can bring to Absa. This will require a deep understanding of the client’s business, and the identification of short and long term value that can be derived from the potential new client.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with key internal stakeholders and role players, e.g. senior management and group marketing through networking and attending relevant and suitable business events.
- Host suitable functions (as agreed with line management) to socialize and inform/update the corporate community on latest developments in the industry
- Deal Project Management
- Manage all live and active transactions by working in or coordinating Client Service Teams (CST) to ensure objectives are met and the product / service / solution is of a high quality and is delivered.
- Ensure a smooth and effective migration and on-boarding of new client relationships.
- Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to Absa-wide compliance and risk policy procedures
- Operate in accordance with Absa’s risk appetite and lending procedures
- Responsible for credit risk management and management of credit action plan with Credit
- Take full ownership of the credit process to enable the approval of all borrowing facilities sought
- Deliver a no surprises approach to risk by using open dialogue with client on risk status and raise cautionary notices when appropriate
- Operations and Compliance
- Actively keep up to date with all relevant knowledge, legislation and developments within the business unit and banking industry that may have an impact on the effective delivery on the role
