PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: 
Reporting to the Superintendent Rigging, this role ensures that heavy lifting tasks and rigging are carried out efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all relevant regulations at the mine site. The Specialist – Crane & Rigging is responsible for overseeing all the mine site lifting operations whilst ensuring that cranes, lifting equipment and lifting gears are appropriately maintained and recorded. They will also assist with coaching and training rigging and cranes team, third party contractors operating on the mine and collaborating with multiple teams to optimize operational safety and efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
•    Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent. 
•    Valid Operator’s Certificate.                                    
•    Scaffolding Certification.
•    International qualification as Rigger/Ropes man.
•    Level 3 International Rigging certificate.
•    Possession of Lifting Machinery Inspection (LMI) Certificate.
•    Certified a Technical Test Invigilator and Technical Test Examiner by the International Certification Body. 
•    Valid Tanzania Driver’s License Class B, D, E, F/ international Driver’s License
•    Certified with approved Training Board to carry out trainings.
•    Registered rigger with approved body.

EXPERIENCE:
•    4 years training in Cranes, Liftings and Rigging.
•    5 years Working Experience as Rigger/Ropes Man and Crane Operator.   
•    1 year’s Supervisory experience preferably in “Lifting Operations” mining or similar industry.
•    Must have hands-on experience with rigging operations.
•    Knowledge of legislation governing mine safety related to rigging and lifting gears.
•    Computation (Mathematical) skills.
•    Well conversant with OSHA 2003 (No.05 of 2003) and ISO 18001 Certifications.
•    Detailed understanding of rigging and lifting critical controls.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
•    Computer skills especially MS Office Package.
•    Basic Computer Design Skills using CAD Software’s 
•    Must be well versed in English (written and spoken).
•    Mining regulations knowledge.

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1.    Training, Development and Coaching
•    Accountable for the scheduling of training and development of inline direct reports and coach identifiable and recognised skills gaps. (Crane, hoist and lifting equipment operators) internal courses
•    Conduct performance examination and hands-on performance tests for Rigging and Lifting programs at the mine site to ensure personnel are properly qualified and maintain the certification of individuals working on Rigging and Lifting Industry at the mine site. 

2.    Operational Planning and Coordination
•    Assist in planning and executing lifting activities that are crucial to the development of new infrastructure or equipment. 
•    Provide expertise in moving large-scale equipment, installing machinery, and supporting the construction of key facilities within the mine site.
•    Develop and implement detailed lifting plans for complex or high-risk lifting operations (e.g., moving heavy mining machinery, transporting materials, or lifting large structures).
•    Collaborate with other departments to plan and execute lifting tasks effectively.
•    Coordinate with site supervisors to ensure that lifting activities are scheduled to minimize disruption to operations.

3.    Inspections
•    Investigate any incidents or near misses related to lifting operations at GGM, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve safety.
•    Provide detailed reports to management on any lifting-related accidents, incidents, transgression or safety violations, offering recommendations for improvement.

4.    Legislative requirements
•    Instruct operatives on their obligations with respect to statutory requirements relating to Lifting Operations, Tanzania Mining regulations and OSHA ,2003(No.05 of 2003, Section 14-22.

5.    Safety and Procedural Enforcement
•    Always promote a culture of safety and practise zero tolerance to noncompliance.
•    Training on proper use and pre-use inspection of rigging gears, slings and below-the-hook lifting devices to ensure those who complete training are competent.
•    Ensure safe operation of all equipment under trainers’ supervision
•    Ensure lifting operations at the mine site comply with strict AGA safety standards to prevent accidents in a high-risk environment. 
•    Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard analyses specific to the mining environment (e.g., underground, open-pit, or surface mining).
•    Monitor and enforce adherence to safety protocols during lifting operations, such as the use of appropriate rigging, crane operations, and PPE standards.

6.    Equipment Management and Maintenance
•    Oversee the selection, inspection, and maintenance of cranes, hoists, and lifting equipment used in mining operations, including large, specialized machinery for lifting heavy or bulky materials.
•    Ensure that lifting equipment and related gears are fit for purpose and meets AGA standards.
•    Organize scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs to minimize downtime and ensure that equipment operates safely.

7.    Supervision of work practices and people management
