Job Opportunities at Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS)

The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is a semi-autonomous agency in the Ministry of Works, established on 1st July, 2000. It is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Tanzania mainland’s trunk and regional roads network, as well as the construction of airports.

TANROADS, on behalf of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, has entered into a contract for the construction of Simiyu Bridge (150M) and its approach road (3KM) to bitumen standard. The Regional Manager’s Office, TANROADS Mwanza, on behalf of the Chief Executive, intends to recruit qualified and competent staff to fill vacant posts on specified contracts for the aforementioned project in the following fields:

1. Resident Engineer 

A: Entry Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. Must be registered with ERB as a Professional Engineer and have a current practicing certificate. A postgraduate qualification in Civil Engineering is an added advantage.
  • At least 10 years of cumulative working experience in road and bridge construction designs, supervision, and contract management/administration under FIDIC Conditions of Contract.
  • Must have served as a Resident Engineer or in an equivalent capacity in at least three (3) road construction projects of similar nature in the last 10 years.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.

B: Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Head the site staff and be responsible for all technical and administrative aspects on-site.
  • Supervise the contractor at the site and manage work plans for the project.
  • Manage quality control, project contracts, and prepare monthly progress reports.
  • Process contractor invoices and facilitate payments.
  • Prepare and attend regular site meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Monitor the implementation of Social and Environmental Impact mitigation measures during the construction of the works in consultation with the Environmental Specialist of TANROADS.
  • Keep updated records including reports, work diaries, correspondences, instructions to contractors, test records, measurement and quantity calculations, payment records, and all other relevant documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager (PM).

2. Topographic Surveyor 

A: Entry Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution. Must be registered by NCPS as a professional Land Surveyor.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in surveying are an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years of cumulative working experience in surveying for the design and/or construction of roads and bridges.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Swahili and English is mandatory.

B: Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, and reports of works performed.
  • Review survey data for accuracy, including measurements and calculations.
  • Identify and locate all beacons and benchmarks for the contractor to set out and construct the works.
  • Direct or conduct surveys to establish legal property boundaries.
  • Record the results of surveys, including location, shape, contour, and dimensions.
  • Coordinate findings with engineers, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Adjust surveying instruments for accuracy and develop criteria for survey methods and procedures.
