Key Job Responsibilities & Duties:

The key responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:
  • Build the capacity of villages to engage in conservation and establish village forest reserves and protected mangrove sites within the project area.
  • Develop and implement annual work plans and monitor project activities to ensure timely implementation and reporting.
  • Promote knowledge, awareness and create inspiration among children and youths on climate change adaptation and Biodiversity conservation.
  • Engage communities and local authorities in forest monitoring including the establishment of Forest Monitors and
  • Support the establishment and operationalization of BMUs.
  • Conduct rapid assessments and regular biodiversity inventories to establish a Bio-data base on Coastal and Marine Ecosystems in collaboration with local and international partners.
  • Foster partnerships with key state governments and relevant technical institutions working on climate change issues and Biodiversity conservation.
  • Prepare quarterly project progress reports, presentations, and other documents for review by the project steering, JGI and Plan International
Minimum Job Requirements & Qualifications:

The minimum job requirements and qualifications will include, but not be limited to:
  • Holder of a Masters’ degree in biodiversity conservation, environmental science, natural resources management, climate change, and integrated coastal and marine conservation sciences-related fields.
  • At least 10 years of work experience of project management in fields related to the implementation of biodiversity management, conservation, coastal and marine ecosys­tems, and climate adaptation.
  • Previous experience in working in remote areas of Tanzania implementing integrated conservation and climate change projects.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure, tight deadlines, and less supervision, self-motivated person, and a team player.
  • Experience in working with various stakeholders such as various agencies, government departments, UN agencies, and different partners.
  • Good communication skills – fluent in Swahili and English, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent presentation, reporting and inter-personnel skills.
  • A track record of successful work on complex donor funded projects in a rural context working with multiple stakeholders including businesses, non-governmental organiza­tions, academic/research institutes, and governments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote areas quite frequently.

Conservation and Sustainable Management of Coastal and Marine

Job Position: Motor Vehicle Driver

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing driving services and support staff in the assigned office to perform their daily planned activities. The driver will also be responsible for ensuring safety of the vehicle and the tools assigned and observing all current JGI Tanzania policies and procedures for driving motor vehicles. The Driver will be responsible in assisting and identifying any vehicle mechanical fault and services, and reporting any discrepancies noted to the supervisor for immediate action. If necessary, the Driver will be required to carry out light mechanical duties and, with the authorization of the supervisor, assure the appropriateness of any mechanical work done by others.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Main responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
  • Drive Institute vehicles and adhere to speed limits as instructed by the road or traffic police and other authorities.
  • Ensure passenger safety and comfort during field trips.
  • Maintain vehicles and other related car accessories to ensure smooth running of the vehicles.
  • Maintain regular inspections on vehicles and report any damages or loss to the supervi­sor for appropriate actions.
  • Advise supervisor on sources of program vehicle maintenance and repair schedule and appropriate spare parts and accessories.
  • Maintain general cleanliness, ensure security of the vehicles and related parts at all times.
  • Prepare schedules for vehicle repair, maintenance and reports to the supervisor for appropriate action.
  • Prepare actual requirements for fuel, oils, and any safari requirements in accordance with the nature of vehicle trips and keep proper records for the same.
  • Fill in all trip logbooks and maintain trip documentation routinely.

  • Form ‘IV Certificate of the Secondary School.
  • Clean class “D* Driving License.
  • Attended a training and certified to drive VIP
  • Attained Vocational Trainings in Mechanics and/or Automobile.
  • Communicates in Swahili and English, both verbal and written.
  • Five (5) years working experience as a Driver in an NGO, private Company, or Government Sector whose nature of the job includes driving in remote areas with poor road infrastructure.

JGI Tanzania is currently seeking to recruit suitably qualified and competent Tanzanian to fill the following vacant positions: Project: Conservation and Sustainable Management of Coastal and Marine Ecosystems (COSME)

Duty Station: Tanga

Reporting Line: Project Manager
Job Position: Office Manager
Key Job Responsibilities & Duties:

The key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
  • Schedule various official appointments with Government Ministries, Donors, NGOs, and other Stakeholders.
  • Remind the Project Manager on the scheduled meetings, appointments, key dates, and other important issues.
  • Maintain filing systems – key office documents – policies, MoUs, Agreements
  • Draft various letters on JGI Tanzania standard correspondence procedures.
  • Ensure office bills and other invoices are paid as appropriate and timely i.e. travel & accom­modation, diesel, water, telephone, electricity, security, air travel etc.
  • Ensure office properties are well kept and maintained: these includes vehicles, assets and all equipment. Also ensure all items are tagged with JGI Asset tags.
  • Supervise & perform stock taking of all office equipment’s every end of the year.
  • Support on official banking issues, handle petty cash, make digital payments, and do retirements accordingly.
  • Support Dar office on any request that require close follow up from Tanga Office.
  • Perform any other duties as may be required by the supervisor.
