The Aga Khan University (AKU) is

Based
in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the Institute for Educational Development
(IED) is one of the leading centres in East Africa for providing diverse
programmes designed for the professional development of educators and
educational researchers. With cutting-edge and regionally relevant
research and leading academic staff, the IED works to improve the
quality of education in East Africa by offering a variety of programmes
which include graduate degrees in education as full-time and part-time,
tailored professional development courses and educational interventions.
Additionally, the IED aims to positively influence educational policies
across the region by working with communities and other stakeholders.
The
Institute for Educational Development in East Africa is currently
seeking to hire a Dean to lead the organisation into its next chapter of
growth and success. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean is the Chief
Academic and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute, a member of the
University’s senior leadership team, and the primary ambassador for the
Institute in the community.
The
Dean plays a central role in setting strategy and overall direction for
education programmes and promoting education reforms; advises the
Provost; works collaboratively with and supports other leaders to
achieve the University goals; ensures alignment of the Institute with
University priorities; and models institutional values and competencies.
He/she is also responsible for education and scholarship, as well as
ensuring the quality and integrity of the Institute in research,
teaching, outreach and community engagement.

- Develop and implement the Institute’s academic and management plans and policies, incorporating a coherent set of objectives for teaching, research and resource development.
- Identify and promote quality, access, relevance and impact of education and scholarship in all IED programmes, including research, teaching, outreach and community engagement.
- Identify and foster links with other academic entities and programmes within the University, the AKDN and outside at National and International levels to enhance collaboration and bring joint grants and funds.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to garner financial and other forms of support to enhance the long-term development and growth of the IED in East Africa.
