The National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) is a Parastatal
Organization under the Ministry of Health. The Institute is mandated
with carrying out, controlling, coordinating, registering, monitoring
and promoting Health Research in Tanzania.
NIMR in collaboration with the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and
President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) received funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) in May 2020 to undertake the project on “Molecular Surveillance of malaria parasite populations and drug resistance to support malaria control and elimination in Tanzania”. This is a 3.5-year project which is based at NIMR Headquarters in Dar es Salaam. The project aims at undertaking studies on population genetics of malaria parasites, drug resistance markers and surveillance of histidine rich protein 2/3 (hrp2/3) gene deletions. The project also has supportive and logistics aims which include training and leadership development for sustainability of MSMT,

The Institute is looking for qualified, competent and self-motivated Tanzanians to fill the positions of Health Laboratory Technologist and Health Laboratory Assistant for the MSMT project based at NIMR Headquarters in Dar es Salaam.
POSITION: HEALTH LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST (1 POSITION)
REPORTS TO: POJECT MANAGER (PM)
JOB LOCATION: NIMR HEADQUARTERS DAR ES SALAAM.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To assist in routine laboratory studies
- To assist superiors in conducting diagnostic tests
- To assist in field laboratory tests
- To assist collecting samples from the fields;
- To assist in preparation of laboratory reagents
- To assist in maintaining laboratory equipment’s
- To assist keeping records for laboratory investigations; and
- To perform other relevant duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Holder of Diploma in one of the following field: Medical Laboratory Sciences, Laboratory Science and Technology, Health Laboratory Technology or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution. The candidate must be registered with respective professional board.
POST: ICT OFFICER (1 POSITION)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for a qualified ICT Officer to design stable and reliable clinical data systems, according to NIMR needs. You will be responsible for developing, testing, improving, and maintaining new and existing systems to help researchers/users collect and retrieve data effectively. As part of our IT team, he/she will work closely with developers to ensure system consistency. You will also collaborate with administrators and clients to provide technical support and identify new requirements. Communication and organization skills are keys for this position, along with a problem-solution attitude. Ultimately, you should be able to ensure our clinical data systems run effectively and securely on a daily basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To design stable, reliable, and effective databases;
To optimize and maintain legacy systems;
To modify databases according to requests and perform tests;
To solve database usage issues and malfunctions;
To liaise with systems analysts and users to improve applications and establish best practices;

To develop technical and training manuals;
To provide data management support to users;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Holder of Bachelor Degree in one of the following fields; Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent computer qualifications from recognized institutions with at least four (5) years working experience in software development.
REQUIREMENTS;
Proven work experience as a Software engineer
Proficiency in python, SQL;
Proficiency with Django and collaborative development (git) an advantage;
Working experience in software development and database management systems;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Excellent analytical and organization skills;
An ability to understand front-end users’ requirements and a problem-solving attitude;
REPORTING:
The Project Coordinator will report to Project Principal Investigator.
CONTRACT:
A one-year contract may be renewed on the basis of performance and mutual agreement.
POSISTION: HEALTH LABORATORY ASSISTANT (1)
REPORTS TO: PROJECT MANAGER (PM)
JOB LOCATION: NIMR HEADQUARTERS DAR ES SALAAM.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform basic laboratory investigations under the supervision of the technologist.
To maintain general cleanliness of laboratory glass ware and equipment.
To collect venous blood from patients and preserve specimens.
To keep records of laboratory investigations carried out in the register.
To perform other relevant duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

REMUNERATION: Salary will be offered as per projects’ budget.
