Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital (SHM), Dar es Salaam was founded on the 29th June 1919 as a response to the needs of the Hindu Community at the time. In 1931 Shree Hindu Mandal started a public dispensary as the precursor of what has become the sixty-bed modern Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital today.

Presently, the hospital provides 24 hour outpatient services including three-bed emergency/casualty ward catering to acute illnesses and emergency services, six-bed critical care unit, radiology, laboratory and pharmacy. The sixty-bed inpatient services cater to maternity, medical, surgical, pediatric and other specialties. The hospital has recently added hemodialysis services with dedicated units for HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C in addition to units for non-infectious cases.

 The hospital also offers comprehensive ophthalmology services, physiotherapy services and has a specialized HIV/AIDS, TB and diabetes services. Currently the hospital caters to over 500 outpatients per day, who are served by a total of 381 staff including consultants, specialists, resident doctors and qualified nursing staff and paramedics.
