Secondary Education for Girls Advancement (SEGA) is a non-profit organization with offices at Mkundi area, Morogoro Municipal, mandated to operate in Tanzania mainland with registration No 00NG/R2/0000232. With a particular focus on vulnerable girls, its mission is to educate and equip bright Tanzanian girls with academic, leadership, and business skills to unleash their individual talents and reach their full potential. The
Sega girls secondary school located in Mkundi area, Morogoro Municipal
provides quality holistic education for form I – IV with 50% of its
students being from vulnerable backgrounds, on scholarship. Its mission
is to provide quality education for girls which fosters the development
of academic excellence, strong values, healthy self-esteem, and
independent thinking skills, with emphasis on leadership,
entrepreneurship, social responsibility and environmental care.
Cook
POSITION: Cook-1 post
Cook Responsibilities.
R1. Prepare quality, tasty, and healthy food for the students in a timely manner for tea, lunch, and dinner. (80%)
- Prepares food on time as per school schedule each day Prepares dinner for students and leaves in the hot pot each afternoon Prepares meals that follow a balanced diet without excess fat, sodium, or sugar, to assist students to maintain good physical health
Ensures efficient use of food-cooking the right amount to prevent waste Alerts Headmistress immediately and at an early stage if for any reason food or fuel is not enough—to Extra Responsibilities
- Wearing proper cooking attire (i.e. apron, hat or hair net, gloves, etc.).
- Using proper dishwashing methods.
- Ensuring that all dining tables and chairs, kitchen, cooking related areas and equipment are clean and in good working order at all times.
- Cleaning kitchen areas after each meal is served.
- Alert the Kitchen Supervisor or Maintenance Department to maintenance requests asking for unsafe equipment to be removed and/or assistance with cleaning difficult to clean food preparation areas.
- Assist the Kitchen Supervisor with ordering food and supplies as necessary
- Proven experience as a cook
- Experience in using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware
- Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)

Driver
POSITION: Driver-1 post
Driver Responsibilities
Driving Staff (70%)
- Picks up staff each morning, ensuring you arrive at the school by 6:30am Drops off staff each afternoon
- Drives any other staff or students to town and back for various reasons (shopping, hospital, errands, etc.) upon request of your supervisor(Headmistress)
- Drives SEGA vehicle safely and at moderate speed at all times
- Maintains a ledger showing hours worked and returns it each day for signing by the
- Headmistress to ensure correct overtime tracking for end-of-month payment
- Maintains vehicle to ensure smooth running. Alerts Headmistress at an early stage for any problems arising, suggesting solutions (repair, replacement of parts, etc.) Services the vehicle regularly
- Records all trips with the vehicle, and tracks kilometers and fuel consumption through the SEGA tracking form
- Assists the Headmistress to ensure the school is operating effectively through undertaking any other duties as assigned (e.g. minor procurement, errands in town etc.)
Conditions:
The position will be based in Morogoro, but occasional trips to Dar es Salaam or other places within Tanzania may be required. The position is based on a 45-hour work week. Frequent overtime may be required, and you will be compensated accordingly.

POSITION: English fluency and life skills Teacher -1 post
Major Function.
The overall objective of the SEGA English Fluency Teacher is to provide diverse and stimulating opportunities for our students to practice and gain proficiency in spoken and written English and the overall objective of the Education for Life Teacher/Counselor is to support students to develop into productive, healthy young women who can take active leadership in their own lives and in their communities. Through teaching life skills, providing psycho-social counseling, and support in developing students’ career pathways, the EFL Counselor contributes to the overall mission of SEGA to assist vulnerable girls to improve their quality of life and create a model secondary school for educating girls.
English fluency Teacher Responsibilities.
- Using and adapting existing materials and curricula put together by past Volunteers, and using additional materials which you identify, further develop the English Fluency program for SEGA students to complement and supplement the national English Syllabus, for the instruction of Pre-Form I students (after they complete Standard VII national exam, prior to entering secondary school/Form I in January)
- Teach intensive EFL classes to incoming Grade 6 and Grade 7 students Initiate out-of-class, extra-curricular, or weekend activities which strengthen English such as clubs, sports, board games, one-on-one tutoring, and other activities using only English
- Provide recommendations to the school for enhancing its support to students to become proficient in English
- Supervises or works with other international volunteers as available native- English Teachers to enhance English on campus through formal classes and extracurricular activities.
- Manages pupil behavior and instills discipline in all students in and outside the classroom while at the same time creating a “safe” environment for vulnerable girls. Ensures supportive, respectful communication style and culture within the school to model appropriate behavior and build student confidence.
- Alerts and keeps the Headmistress informed of all students’ progress, highlighting problems at an early stage
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Head if the need arises b/ Life skills Teacher responsibilities.
R1: Supports Development of Life and Leadership Skills Among Students in and outside of the Classroom (35%)
- Teaches Life Skills classes to non-formal and secondary students as per curriculum
- Develops, coordinates, and ensures the quality of logistics, content, and impact of Community Outreach activities for all Forms of girls, as appropriate. Modifies the program over time to make it an effective tool for leadership skills development Leads seminars) or invites/facilitates expert organizations to lead seminars in HIV/AIDS, pregnancy prevention, or other pertinent health issues Develops, coordinates, and ensures the quality of student mentoring programs on campus involving all students. Modifies and improves its effectiveness over time.
- Working together with EFL Program Coordinator, Matron, Nurse, teachers/ advisors, Headmistress, supports students emotionally, by listening, and offering advice, referring to Counselor as necessary.
- Manages pupil behavior and instills discipline in all students in and outside the classroom while at the same time creating a “safe” environment for vulnerable girls.
- Seeks to remind and bring into focus our life and leadership development objectives through all aspects of campus life, building synergies wherever possible
- Supports staff (through training, reminding, supporting…) to adopt healthy communication styles with each other, and with students, to reinforce Segas life and leadership skills agenda set the example, and build student confidence. POSITION: Biology and Physical Education/Sports Teacher – 1 post
JOB DESCRIPTION
Major function
We are searching for a reliable and passionate biology teacher to join our faculty. The biology teachers responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, tests, and assignments, supervising students during investigations and experiments, and acting as a field trip chaperone. You should be able to teach students from different backgrounds, with varying aptitudes and interests.
To be successful as a biology teacher, you should be culturally sensitive, well-organized, and demonstrate insatiable curiosity. Outstanding candidates are not squeamish and can confidently explain bodily functions to teenagers.
Biology Teacher Responsibilities:
- Preparing and delivering engaging biology lessons to students from different backgrounds, who all have different interests and abilities.
- Monitoring student performance, and adjusting teaching strategies and techniques for improved content delivery.
- Establishing classroom, laboratory, and field trip rules and ensuring all students understand and accept them.
- Setting up exams, assessments, and experiments in accordance with curriculum
- requirements and standards of the state and district.
- Communicating any student issues to parents, counselors, and other relevant staff members.

Major function
The overall role responsibility of a Teacher at Sega Girls School is to provide quality, participatory education opportunities for students which build both academic competence and practical skills to assist students to become self-reliant, contributing members of society upon graduation; and to contribute to the development of the SEGA Girls School as a quality, financially self-sufficient institution which may serve as a model to others.
Responsibilities
R1. Lessons Preparation/Planning and Materials Development:
Develops creative, participatory, and integrated learning opportunities for students in your assigned subject areas as per the Tanzanian national curriculum, and as per SEGA’s vision and values to provide quality academic and practical education which builds self-reliance and entrepreneurship (30%)
- Develops scheme of work, and lesson plans as per the content of the National Curriculum for Secondary students
- Conducts detailed advance planning of classes that will actively involve students and engage them in higher-level thinking, specifically:
- Posing pre-planned high-level thinking questions which help students get to “the next level” of thinking and creativity
- Creating, identifying, and using a variety of teaching and learning materials appealing to different learning styles (charts, objects, songs)
- Varies teaching methods to stimulate students, such as the use of IT, video, small group discussion, hands-on and experiential learning, and other
- Teaches classes to Secondary students as per the schedule developed, ensuring punctual attendance at all classes
- Regularly assesses students against expected competencies within the secondary curriculum, ensuring students are on-track, and prepare, administer, and mark tests and exams as required.
- Develops solutions for struggling students (e.g. extra tuition, counseling, alternative modes of delivering material, etc.)
