Tanzania Teachers’ Union (CWT) is a trade union of teachers in
Tanzania mainland. The union was formed in 1993 for the purpose of
advocating for and promoting the rights of teachers in Tanzania. It is a
voice of teachers in Tanzania
where it seeks, not only to inform them on their right, but also covey
message to policy and decision makers, planners and the entire
population on the need for environmental and institutional change
towards teachers and inform on the necessity for mainstreaming the
constituency’s plight in the national agenda.
To become an organization with the highest efficiency in uniting teachers and handling various grievances affecting members, striving for better working conditions and the welfare of teachers and to be in the front line in advocating for and protecting the status and dignity of the teaching profession and quality education for all. They are the most important inputs in the education process. It is no exaggeration to say that the most likely way to improve the quality of education is to invest in teachers.
