Risk Data Analyst

Job Purpose

  • The Analyst is responsible for executing investigations to identify relationships that pose money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, and sanctions risks.
  • The Analyst compiles evidence and documentation in compliance with Anti Money Laundering (AML) procedures and regulatory requirements prior to escalations of potential Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) to Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO).
  • Ensure efficient identification and monitoring of suspicious activities and transactions.

Main Responsibilities

AML, Fraud and Sanction system support – 60%

  • Support the implementation of an effective AML Transaction Monitoring alert analysis and suspicious activity investigations program to ensure compliance to relevant AML/Sanctions laws and regulations.
  • Implement Transaction Monitoring (TM) techniques to support identification of risks around Money laundering, Terrorism Financing, Economic Sanctions, Fraud, and Operational risks consistent with the bank’s Financial Crime Compliance Risk Governance Framework.
  • Monitor potentially suspicious patterns of activities and recommend changes to rules, parameters, and thresholds maintained within the transaction monitoring systems to ensure its continued effectiveness.
  • Ensure strong operational understanding of TM screening systems and ability to propose changes to support functional requirements gathering in cases of a need for systems upgrade.
  • Implement strategies to address increases in alert volume by enhancing effectiveness and efficiency of alert reviews while maintaining ability to address risk.
  • Ability to create, test and modify new and existing detection scenarios based on various trend reports and requests from the TM team, Head of Compliance and Chief Risk & Compliance (CRCO).
  • Perform system health checks on regular intervals and report immediately to the Line Manager any system downtime and irregularities.

AML, Fraud and Sanctions Alerts disposition – 30%

  • Maintain a well-informed and all-inclusive knowledge of current money laundering and terrorist financing behaviors, issues, criminal typologies, industry best practices, regulations, and developing trends.
  • Research, analyze, and investigate Transaction Monitoring alerts behavior for potential money laundering or terrorist financing, fraud, and sanctions related risks in accordance with Bank policies and procedures.
  • Determine if alerts can be closed or warrant further investigation and elevation to an active investigation in the case management system.
  • As necessary, use available research tools (public internet sources as well as third party sites) to identify information concerning transactions identified for further investigation.
  • Request additional information by contacting various business personnel throughout NMB Bank to determine if facts and circumstances surrounding unusual transactions warrants closure of the investigation or if further reporting is warranted.
  • Ensure that detected information regarding AML & Sanctions violations are effectively communicated to the MLRO in a timely manner per agreed SLAs.
  • Provide regular reports and communication on the status and health of the Transaction Monitoring alert analysis and suspicious activity investigations program to the Manager, TM and Head of Compliance.
  • Ensure the production of timely and effective AML Transaction Monitoring-related management information (“MI”) and other applicable information to the line manager.

Business support and other assigned duties – 10%

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Line Manager or Head of Compliance
  • Support Business in bringing in deposit or any other campaign which requires all NMB staff to participate.

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Knowledge of Transaction Monitoring systems, analytical and investigative processes and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to identify, escalate and communicate issues to management in an effective and succinct manner.
  • Strong knowledge of AML laws & Sanctions regulations and their application.
  • Advance knowledge of Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Projects.
  • Experience with different well recognized AML Systems strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of system security and data backup/recovery.
  • Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and analytical skills.

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Business, Economics, Finance, Risk Management, Law, Information Technology or related field.
  • Holder of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certification, or intention to pursue within 12 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management.
  • Minimum 2 – 4 years in financial services operations and 3 years’ experience with Transaction Monitoring systems.
  • Experience as an AML investigator in a transaction monitoring capacity or equivalent experience or education.
  • Experience with different well recognized AML Systems strongly preferred.

 Business Planning Manager
Reporting line: Chief Wholesale Banking
Job Purpose
Work closely with the Chief; Wholesale Banking to plan, execute and review the Wholesale Banking strategy and provide day-to-day support to enable him to focus on key strategic issues and decisions

Main Responsibilities

  • Support Chief; Wholesale Banking with the formulation and articulation of a business strategy for Wholesale Banking.
  • Assist in waterfalling strategic decisions throughout the organization through presentations, events and internal communiques
  • Provide analysis on key revenue drivers and recommend cross-sell and pricing strategies
  • Analyze financials, MIS, incoming documentation and highlight key matters/issues to the Chief; Wholesale Banking.

  • Work with Wholesale Banking department heads, and Finance Department to complete yearly budget request and justifications both OPEX & CAPEX Budget for financial year, do monthly and quarterly budget review and ensure the Wholesale Banking costs remain within approved budget.
  • Review operational, financial records and reports and make recommendations for improvements, work with Wholesale Banking department heads to compile data necessary to analyze and determine operational and financial efficiency.
  • Conduct internal/external research on subject matters as required
  • Work together with the Chief; Wholesale Banking, Marketing and Corporate Communications departments in terms of internal and external communication processes
  • Draft presentations and documentations as required
  • Provide administrative support to the Chief; Wholesale Banking as required

Legal Manager, General Contracts
Job Title: Legal Manager, General Contracts
Reporting Line: Head, Legal & Company Secretary
Job Purpose
To assist the Company Secretary in preparing general contracts. 

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the Company Secretary and Head of Legal on contract management.
  • Manage the administrative function related to filing and storage of general contracts in an organized manner.
  • Preparation of relevant legal opinions as required by the business with regards to bank’s contract issues.
  • To coordinate, and manage standard, general contracts that are non-lending, but includes structured/loan products which are lending in nature.
  • To assist the Company Secretary and Head of Legal in drafting general contracts on time for customers on request from relevant departments and branches within and outside the bank.
  • As and when tasked by the Company Secretary and Head of legal, participate in negotiations, drafting and implementation of general contracts and agreements in which the bank is a party so that the bank’s interest is protected and avoid unnecessary loss arising out of poor drafting.
  • To act as custodian of the bank’s general contracts.
  • To assist the Company Secretary and Head of Legal in maintaining the contract register and ensuring all contracts are renewed/terminated timely.
  • To manage the performance of Legal Counsel and Legal Officer- General Contracts, develop and implement training and development plans to ensure their performance is aligned with business goals and objectives.
  • To provide guidance on contract matters to the business in contracting practices and procedures.
  • Contribute towards assisting reviewing different engagements from the bank’s products and innovation team and transactional banking.
  • Handle other tasks as assigned by the Company Secretary and Head of Legal from time to time.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Business understanding of legal and risk management framework.
  • Technical: Company law, contracts law.
  • Behavioral: Communication, Decision Making, Flexibility, Quality Orientation.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in law; a Master’s degree in Law will be an added advantage
  • Must be a registered advocate.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ legal experience in a bank or financial institution.
