The
Climate Resilient Agribusiness for Tomorrow Project in East Africa is a
5-year, € 39 million project being implemented in Kenya, Tanzania and
Uganda. The project uses an inclusive Business Development approach to
support the international and Dutch efforts on climate change and
sustainable production in arable farming. The programme will work with
and through the private sector and supports public sector partners in
creating an institutional environment for wide-scale adoption of climate
smart agriculture (CSA) practices.
Job Description
The
junior Agronomist/Agribusiness Advisor will be responsible for
supporting the adoption of climate smart technologies by farmers, SMEs
and service providers in project targeted value chains. S/he will
support specific climate smart field based activities and extension
systems linked to inclusive business cases, which are potentially
supported through the project’s climate innovation and investment
facility funds for interventions and scaling. S/he will work in
coordination with the senior agronomist and the senior agribusiness
advisors, the M&E advisor and the project manager to contribute to
cost/benefit analyses which will underpin the investments for effective
climate resilient production systems.
The incumbent will provide support to SMEs and farmer
groups/cooperatives on the most appropriate climate integration
strategies, which enhances the income for producers, agribusiness,
service providers and other stakeholders in selected value chains. The
incumbent will contribute to the joint learning of smallholder producers
and SME adoption of climate smart agriculture. S/he will support the
management and supervision of local extension providers in the business
cases and pilot result based performance contracts. S/he will support
technical expert missions from other consortium partners to strengthen
stakeholder capacities in arable crop value chains, and in conducting
climate risk assessments and other related studies.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in the value chain and climate risk assessments of prioritised commodities (pulses, oilseed, potatoes and grains);
Support the co-design of climate smart interventions based on farming systems approach and farmer typology and profiling;
Support the training and coaching of extension service providers on climate smart practices and technology adoption;
Support extension providers in delivering needs-based and practical trainings to male, female and young farmers;
Support
the testing of profitable climate smart innovations with smallholder
farmers in collaboration with the research partners;
Support technical field based missions from project consortium partners;
Contribute
to improved service delivery to farmers by cooperatives, agri-SMEs and
service providers in collaboration with consortium partners;
Support SMEs in the promotion, market uptake and scaling of evidence-based climate smart technologies;
Support the integration of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions in agribusinesses;
Support
the provision of tailor made information to producers and SME’s on crop
suitability, climate risks and cost effectiveness/viability of
interventions;
Support the implementation of business cases and the co-investment fund;
Support
the identification and analysis of the barriers for the uptake of
climate smart technologies and formulate recommendation to SME’s,
financial institutions and government;
Support
the brokering and creation of improved linkages between farmers,
cooperatives, public and private service providers, SME’s and other
relevant stakeholders through the development of inclusive business
cases;
Contribute to learning on scaling CSA.
Qualifications A relevant academic qualification in agronomy and/or farming systems
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience of working in agronomy advisory and/or agribusiness development;
Knowledge of technical aspects of priortitised commodities (pulses, oilseed and grains) and farming systems in east Africa;
Experience in famer extension, SME advising, and agribusiness case development;
Experience in climate smart agriculture design and financial analysis of climate smart technologies will be a plus;
Experience working with female entrepreneurs and gender integration approaches, as well as young-agri-enterpreneurs;
Knowledge climate smart innovation and farmer adoption;
Experience with result-based service provision and farmer organisation strengthening;
Excellent communication (written and oral), reporting and presentation skills;
Willingness to travel to all project locations

This is a full-time national role with the successful candidate being contracted on a 3-year basis with the possibility of renewal. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a competitive secondary benefit package.

Position: Project Manager - OYE Project

Job Description
Overview of the Position
The
Project Manager Tanzania will provide guidance and manage the
implementation of the Tanzania project and ensure that the objectives
and targets are achieved. S/he will manage programmatic, financial, and
operational and HR resources dedicated to the project; oversee
performance and expenditures in close collaboration with the Project
Finance Officer and ensure timely and compliant procurement together
with the SNV Operations Department.
The position requires regular travel across the Central and Northern regions of Tanzania.
The
successful candidate will be focusing on finalizing the achievement of
the project targets before the end of the current project duration as
well as supporting the preparation, design and implementation of the
Second Phase of the project.
Key Responsibilities
•
Guide the project planning and implementation in Tanzania including
engagement with local stakeholders and subcontractors; development of
annual operational work plans and budgets on the basis of the existing
project activity plans and budget;
•
Project management: effectively manage the human, physical and
financial resources allocated to the project ensuring that work is
implemented no time and to budget and achieves the promised
deliverables;
• Monitor and guide local implementing partner organisations;
• Provide monthly, quarterly and annual reports to donors and contribute to development of overall SNV global annual report.
• Liaise with the OYE Tanzania Agriculture project leader on cross-cutting matters, both programmatic as well as financial;
•
Contribute to synergy between the OYE project, the SDC OYE project and
SNV’s energy programmes in Tanzania by providing strategic guidance to
guarantee a balance between contextual opportunities and effective
implementation of the project approach;
•
Monitor performance of the project team to ensure that all milestones
set in the annual work plans are met, and develop mitigation plans to
reduce setbacks; take corrective actions to fix any deviation from work
plans;
• Report to the SNV Country Director
• Guide knowledge development, documentation and communication & branding – in close collaboration with the Country Director and the donor
• Donor relations: Effectively manage in country donor relations and establish professional partnership with key private and public sector stakeholders

• Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline e.g. related to development, energy, or social studies;
• Proven track record with at least 5 years’ experience in the management of projects in development organizations;
• Proven experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Demonstrated experience in managing capacity building programmes.
• Demonstrated experience as a trainer is desired.
