What You Can Expect
Responsible for establishing BASF as the supplier of choice for rock
support in Africa. Act as an interface between the customer and product
development for Mining Backfill applications.
Working closely with product management, development and sales,
technical marketing ensures the harmonization and prioritization of
technical standards and requirements.
Core responsibilities will include the following-
- The most important tasks in technical marketing are identifying customer demands, outlining the product requirements of domestic and international markets, and sampling and launching new products with a specific focus on mining backfill
- Application service focuses on customers and solutions within the mining industry segment. This includes the technical interface to the direct customers
- Provide the technical lead for ad hoc problem solving, single customer projects on existing portfolio & portfolio extensions, coordination of all Research & Development projects at the relevant customers
- Identify customer and industry needs for innovation and provide input to industry marketing
- Support development in securing IP (intellectual property) position by giving industry input; compose technical brochures from industry perspective; design technical concepts for the existing portfolio and conducting technical customer workshops
- Support the existing product portfolio technically with the functions technical complaint management; definition of specification and release analytics; global alignment of test methods; generation of product data for technical literature; benchmark of competitor product data; re-qualification and release of aged / off-spec material
- Demonstrate professional and / or disciplinary leadership of employees, motivation and coaching of sales teams, including management of virtual teams

Tanzania Education Corp (TEC),
(www.tanzaniaeducationcorp.org) a Boston-based NGO, has supported the
Tumaini Schools in northern Tanzania since 2008. Tumaini Schools operate
three private, English-language, non-profit schools with a combined
enrollment of 1,100 students. The preschool and primary school are
located in Karatu, two and a half hours from Arusha. The secondary
school (TSSS) is located in Makuyuni, an hour west of Arusha. The oldest
of the schools, Tumaini Junior, is a K-7 school, opened in 2004, and
its graduates consistently rank in the top 1% among Tanzania’s over
15,000 schools primary schools. All the schools recruit primarily from
families residing in the local area. TEC raises funds for major school
construction projects at all three campuses and provides financial aid
to Tumaini students through its Sponsorship Program. TEC has also
supported the development of libraries, computer labs and special
courses.
Position: TSSS
Program Director
TEC is looking for a full-time TSSS
Program Director to join our team based in Karatu. Main
responsibilities include overseeing our secondary school library,
managing a reading program at our secondary school. In addition, the
Program Director will assist the Sponsorship Director with coordinating
and conducting visitor tours, including student groups. This
position requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail and
the ability to work across all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Oversee library at Tumaini Senior Secondary School. Train older students and teachers to help with monitoring of library during open hours.
- Design and implement reading programs that support slower readers, encourage students to read more challenging books, and generally promote a reading culture at the school.
- Help teach a graphic novel class and English grammar classes.
- Assist with a variety of digital platforms that include the TEC website, social media, and email newsletters with goal to increase TEC brand awareness.
- Work collaboratively with our librarian at the elementary school to ensure cohesion and cooperation between the two libraries. Help at the primary school library 1 or 2 days per week.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 1-3 years of experience, ideally in an international nonprofit setting. Experience in East Africa is a plus.
- Highly collaborative style; ability to create relationships with staff, volunteers, and people from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent English writing/editing and verbal communication skills
- Must be willing and able to adapt to Tanzania’s culture
- Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
- Knowledge of library management is desirable but not required
- Knowledge of kiswahili desirable but not required
Commitment
Minimum one-year commitment with an arrival date in Karatu, Tanzania Mid-April 2019.

Compensation
- $500 a month stipend deposited into a US bank account on the last day of every month. TEC views you as an independent contractor and, as a result, you are responsible for all taxes owed (including Social Security, Medicare, federal and state income taxes).
- Work visa fees paid by TEC.
- Reimbursement for all out-of-pocket expenses related to TEC, paid monthly.
- Rent, utilities (includes internet and a local phone) and housekeeper for a two bedroom house with Western toilet and shower to be shared. Own bedroom. Food is not included.
- Two one way tickets from your home to Kilimanjaro Airport in Arusha, not to exceed a total of $2,000
- Shared Apple laptop for TEC business; we encourage you to bring your own for personal use.
- Three weeks of paid vacation excluding June-September
- Does not include costs of immunizations
