POSITION – HEAD OF FINANCE (1)
JOB LOCATION: DAR ES SALAAM TANZANIA

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Description of Task/responsibilities
A: Accounting Component
  • Prepare all payment vouchers for the ABA Alliance and ABA Alliance Advisory Limited
  • Post all transactions in the accounting system
  • Prepare fee notes and bill our clients for ongoing jobs and collect the payment in time
  • Manage the petty cash
  • Manage the bank transactions including preparing the monthly bank reconciliations
  • Issue and manage staff imprests
  • Prepare monthly management accounts
  • Prepare final financial statements
  • Prepare and file all statutory returns
  • Maintain the fixed asset register
  • Manage and reconcile the related party transactions
  • Manage and reconcile the partners/directors current account
  • Prepare journal vouchers for all transactions that goes in the system by way of JV
  • Collect all withholding tax certificates that we get deducted by clients
  • Manage and reconcile VAT account with the monthly returns
  • In collaboration with the Administration Department analyze the usage of stationary budget
  • Prepare quarterly and annual budget


  • Ability to perform accounting functions ranging from: Maintaining client’s books of accounts (GL) which may include weekly/monthly visits to client premises to oversee postings/reports generated and take appropriate course of action.
  • To effectively perform this task, you will be expected to be conversant with:
    • Payroll processing;
    • VAT preparation/filing/consultations;
    • Reconciliation of various account balances;
    • preparation and/or review of various reports;
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements and/or perform pre-audit reviews/preparations for clients;
  • Whenever necessary, be responsible to manage external auditors
  • Attend other external auditors when on engagements that the firm has ceased to be auditors (i.e. working with other auditors to review our audit files, etc.)
  • and other similar tasks/responsibilities as may be agreed from time to time depending on client needs.
B: External Consultancy Component
Where appropriate and depending on the Terms of Reference and in consultation with the partners/directors provide accounting consultancy services as may be requested by clients from time to time.
C: Team Management Component
  • Demonstrate a high level of Professional etiquette
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide counseling (mentoring) and aspiring junior members of the Accounting Department to excel
  • Complete staff performance appraisal for staff members under the Finance Department and provide summary feedback to the Partner Responsible for Financial Affairs for the appropriate course of action
  • Provide regular feedback to Partners, as the case may be, of progress or any matter for which you are responsible.
C: Client Management Component
  • Act as a point of contact between the Firm and the clients to whom the Firm provides Accounting Function and manage engagement costs, raising fee notes, effectively collecting invoiced fees, agree engagement delivery dates and overall engagement management
  • Draft engagement correspondences, DRAFT Reports for review by the Partner prior to dissemination to clients
  • Keep abreast of key changes in the industry such as: changing legal statutes (tax, etc.); budget sessions; regulator’s pronouncements; IFRS/IAS updates; etc. and be able to provide necessary billable guidance to clients
  • Keep up-to-date with ABA Alliance’s products and services
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of products/services offered by the firm so as to identify and take up opportunities that may arise during the course of working with clients and/or networking
  • Demonstrated ability to generate new businesses to the firm (through networking; identifying prospective business; participation in proposal writing; linkages; etc.)
  • Be responsible to build the Firm’s reputation through quality work, demonstrated technical knowledge and professional experience.
D: Firm’s Management Accounts
  • Be responsible to ensure the upkeep of the Firm’s Portfolio of Clients and to ensure Engagement Letters are signed off immediately prior to the commencement of any work and that such letters are accompanied with Invoices for interim/initial billings
  • Be able to produce monthly management accounts for Partner’s Meeting within one week of the end of the month to which the report refers
ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION and EXPERIENCE:
The candidate should have the MINIMUM requirements as below:
(i) First Degree in: Finance OR Accounting from a reputable University
(ii) Qualified CPA (T)/ACCA
(iii) Working experience in a similar position of at least FOUR YEARS with reputable Entity(ies)
(iv) Ability to work diligently demonstrating a high level of commitment to work with MINIMUM supervision
(v) Good Team Player and Good Communicator with Emphasis on the ability to provide timely feedback for effective management
(vi) Willingness to learn and use knowledge so gained for the furtherance of self & Firm’s progress

Responsibilities
A: Audit Component
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the Audit Engagement Circle (i.e. from Planning to signing-off).
  • Actively engage in the planning of the audit, actual fieldwork as well as completion and reporting.
  • Take full ownership of the engagement following up with the Engagement Manager and Partner to ensure effective completion of engagements.
  • Be a liaison between the firm and the clients by applying leadership and negotiation skills
  • Be a team player. Demonstrate the ability to work as part of the team. Identify training needs within the team and suggest improvement strategies.
B: Team Management Component

A: Audit Component
  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the Audit Engagement Circle (i.e. from Planning to signing-off).

  • Review work done by staff in the accounting/ advisory team
  • Provide guidance and direction to the accounting/advisory team
  • Identify the deliverables for each client and work towards meeting the requirements
